Focus Issues
Nearly All of the 50 States Have Banned the Use of Live Animals for Target Practice...
Some for Nearly 100 Years...But Not Pennsylvania! It's Time We Did!!
Because nearly all of the fifty states except Pennsylvania have banned the use of live pigeons or animals for target practice, a few Pennsylvania gun clubs have become the killing fields for out of state shooters who can not legally use live animals or birds for target practice in their home states. The birds that do manage to get away add to the local pigeon population while the shooters leave all of the problems behind for Pennsylvania taxpayers.*
Those of us who have been trying to stop these barbarous target shoots, as other states have done, are within a hand full of votes to do so in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Your financial contribution - and your active contact with your state legislator - could make the difference! Please contact us today at info@humaneusapapac.org to learn how you can help to stop sensless animal cruelty in Pennsylvania.
*Vans with Pennsylvania license tags have been observed capturing and transporting pigeons in violation of the New York City ordinances, leading observers to conclude that the birds are being imported into Pennsylvania for pigeon shoots.
Pennsylvania's Pigeon Shoots
This is footage from a live pigeon shoot in Schyulkill County, PA. In addition to shooting birds on the ground that choose not to (or can't) fly, you will note that childern are utilized to collect the dead and wounded birds - often tossing them into garbage bags to be smotherd or crushed by other birds tossed in on top of them. It should also be noted that taxpayer funded State Police have been necessary to keep order.
